Why This Exists
Most founders meet a lawyer for the first time when something has already gone wrong. By then the contract is signed, the co-founder has left with the IP, or the funder has asked a question nobody prepared for.
The StartUp Legal exists to move that meeting earlier. Templates for the documents a business can handle itself, and counsel for the matters that carry real consequence: a deal, a raise, a contract that changes the shape of the business.
Legal consultancy, not a law firm. No trust account, no client funds, no litigation. Where a matter becomes contested, it is referred to attorneys who do that work.

Our Approach
Three routes, and which one you need depends on the matter.
Buy the document. Most early-stage legal work is a contract that already exists. Those are in the shop, drafted for South African law and priced to be bought rather than quoted.
Get the matter scoped. Where a document will not solve it, the work is defined upfront with a fixed fee and a written deliverable. No open-ended hourly billing on a matter neither of us has scoped.
Keep counsel on hand. For businesses doing deals continuously, a retainer means the legal view arrives before the decision rather than after it.
